Secure Bike Storage availabe at Altonsyde, Nairn.
In Spring of 2022 we had a gentleman staying in one of our rooms. He was staying with us at Altonsyde, Nairn because he was participating in a week of cycling events in the Highlands and we were his base. I realised that we needed to have a better arrangement for our guests who wished to Visit Nairn and bring their own bicycles or perhaps storage for those who were arriving by bike. I had heard about the Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland scheme to encourage people to cycle or have facilities provided for them when they were on a cycling holiday. Part of the scheme is to help accommodation providers attract new customers while providing them with an improved riding experience.
The Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland Scheme (DMBinS scheme) had unluckily for me just ended but I submitted my paperwork anyway. Luckily for me Ruari, a member of the team, got back to me and said they hoped to offer the grant again and he would be willing to keep my paperwork on hold. I was delighted and was prepared to wait and be hopeful that we would have the opportunity to make use of the Bike Storage grant if it was reopened, and, thankfully it was!
The scheme offers up to 50% or £500 maximum, to enhance secure storage provision for biking facilities. We already had a bike rack, outside tap and access to a pump etc. but we couldn’t offer our guests secure bicycle storage. Access to the grant support would help us to offer secure bike storage.
One of the companies recommended by the scheme is Asgard, their storage units have certification and are approved for the Loss Prevention Certification Board and Secured by Design police initiative. We thought the Asgard Access Plus Bike Shed Bundle suited out options best, as it has space for up to 5 bikes, storage hooks, shelves and 2 disc packlocks. Being in the Highlands, the delivery charge was a whopping £75 and the installation service was £250. So all in all, the total outlay was £1159.
Asgard Storage Units must have a great reputation, we were accepted for the grant and duly ordered the Secure Bike Storage unit only to find that there was a 4 month lead time on delivery. But now that amazing Secure Bike Storage unit has arrived and has been expertly erected under the apple tree. We are thrilled and we hope you will be to!
