Why VisitNairn? What does it have to offer? Is it just a beach?

Bluebells on the seaside wood strip Tradespark Nairn

Nairn is surrounded by and full of woodlands. Mature woods, brimming with life, birds and scampering red squirrels and pine marten and roe deer. I haven’t seen a (live) badger yet, sadly I have seen poor dead creatures on the road. So I know they are there.

As Nairn grew from it’s humble beginnings based around the fishing industry of the Fishertown area, turning into the Brighton of the North in Victorian times. Beautiful large sandstone buildings were built, and at the same time, trees were planted to provide them with greenery and some privacy from their neighbours. Many of the old hotels like Muthu Hotel in Nairn, still retain their elegant drive way with established woodlands, a haven for wildlife.

On todays little walk down to the Nairn leisure centre for a swim, the Bluebell heads were dancing on Tradepark Road, where once the daffodils and snowdrops had welcomed me. Old mature woodlands where we see the red squirrel (with tip to his tail of blonde hair), roe deer and even the loud raucous call of the pheasant. The pheasant has been known to visit the garden, liking the area underneath the apple tree where the rhubarb is bursting forth.

And of course their is Culbin Forest and Delnies Woods (also known as Moss-side), the gorgeous walk up to Cawdor alongside the Nairn River.

Nairn has so much more to offer than just our amazing beaches.
