Where to see Highland Cows, Hairy Cows, Heeland Coos in Nairn?

Tammie Norrie, Nairn and the Heilan Coo Trail

What a surprise I got when I was walking towards the Fisherwife of Nairn to discover a Puffin Coloured Highland Cow! Or Heilan Coo as this one is named.

Nairn Fisherwife statue close up

This is the Nairn Fisherwife I was headed towards when I got my Coo surprise! This beautiful statue commemorates the amazing ladies of Fishertown, who were just as hard working, if not more, than their husbands, with the hard life they lead.

The Highland Hospice has set up, what they title, an ‘Udderly Brilliant Adventure’ Wow, what a great name, with it being coos and all! 22 decorated Heiland Coos make up the trail and these are distributed throughout the Highlands. From April to August you can search for your favourite coos as you travel around!

There is a Coo raffle (if you win a Cow, you thankfully won’t have to feed it!) and also you can vote for your favourite Coo. All proceeds go to this amazing Highland Charity, The Highland Hospice. So what are you waiting for? Go on a coo adventure and travel the Highlands like my favourite cow, Nancy Coo (Nancy Coo walks 500 sMiles, a wee cow how has lost her smiles, and to find it she walks 500 miles).

Of course you might actually want to see a real Highland Cow in your travels around Nairn. Do you?

Nairn doesn’t disappoint, as the Mtuhu Hotel in Nairn, has a field directly in front of it and there you will find two gorgeous and docile Highland Cows, with a small flock of sheep. These two Highland Cows are only a short walk away from Altonsyde, and I pass them every time I am walking down to the beach or the swimming pool. In fact I often see red squirrels here too, clearly red and ginger are the theme for the gorgeous creatures of Nairn.
