Tradespark area of Nairn - history

The west end of Nairn is such a beautiful area, home to the oldest Golf Club in Nairn, The Nairn Golf Club, and beautiful Victorian homes, where did this name come from?

Unfortunately to me it sounded like an industrial area but not that I know the truth behind the name I love it!

Home to drovers and local markets to locals. A meeting point, a green space, a hive of industry and the bellows of Highland Cattle!

  • tradespark wood sign

This sign can be found within the triangle of Tradespark Woods which provides the history of the area and the name.

This wonderful wood was planted with Scots Pine in the earl 1900’s when the area was part of the Achareidh Estate

Before that the site would have been heathland and was used as a meeting point for local traders with their horse and carriages. They dealt in goods like grain and timber which had arrived by ship at Nairn harbour.

Drovers kept their Highland Cattle here when they were visiting teh neaby Drovers Rest Tavern on their way to markets in the south.
